laputa title logo

facts and/or conjecture stuff

the recent release that was dubbed by pixar peeps through disney, cut the word laputa from the title so not to risk offending anyone spanish, apparently it translates into something rude. so western versions are known as just castle in the sky.

the movie was made during 1985 and 1986, it was released in eastern cinema in 86, and later on some japan to us airline, it was written and directed by the awesome hayao miyazaki. its about 2 hours long.

i and many others in the internet community watched this movie just before new years either 88 or 89, i have recently found in various places information regarding the english dub version that we saw. Dubbed by streamline, or atleast distributed by them, theres an interview floating about with carl macek from streamline that mentions the dub was done prior to them recieving it but it doesnt say by whom (the interview is on anime-tourist.com, but streamline did dub other ghibli works such as my neighbor totoro and kiki's delivery service). as far as i can work out there is a japanese dvd with the original english dub of laputa, but i'm not sure which one. do a google search for laputa itv for some good info on peeps who also saw this beauty in the late eighties on the telly, one forum seemed to find this site to sell the dvd with original dub, it does look like the version i have which i got from ebay, i think it is rare to find this particular one on ebay, be warned if u see the same cover, i think the japanese red sticker on it is the key to being from the vendors who have sold the streamline distributed dub. i dont think kiki's delivery service from this site is the original dub, my jap version has the disney dub, which is great with phil hartman as jiji. but that was also an ebay purchase, so its not definately the same one, it just very much could be.

incase you didnt already know nausicaa.net is the site to go to for your ghibli info

thats actually all i can think of, besides i started this a year ago and just want it on the net, so its a little thin, i did make some effort with the picture gallery though, check it out maybe

all pictures belong to studio Ghibli
